2000 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L sport (Auto) info delight!
Hi Guydue south
I need some urgent information on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4L Sport Automated. Its in good nick, 110 000km with a full service history from NMI for R85 000.
What I would similar to know is:
- Is it a good buy?
- Are these vehicles reliable?
- What is the fuel consumption? I spoke to the agents and they recon anything between 12 and 13 liters per 100km.
- Maintenance and service cost?
Promise any owners of similar vehicles can help me with some info!Regards
Francois

It sounds similar a skilful buy, depending on the condition, total service history, etc. etc.
It's probably the virtually reliable Jeep you tin can become, just problem I had with mine was a waterpump and hose replacement at 120 000km, otherwise, fairly reliable.
Fuel consumption tin vary profoundly depending on use, 12-thirteen l/100km is realistic if you simply use it for highway cruising. Metropolis, and depending on how heavy your foot is, you tin await between fourteen-17l/100km.
Maintenance and service cost is no more expensive than almost other makes out there, equally long equally you stay away from the dealership. One thing to consider is that pirate parts are not widely available for Jeeps (if at all), then for certain parts if they should pause, it's a dealer only particular - either that or import from the US. If you purchase one in a good condition, information technology should non require a lot of maintenance, regular servicing will not exist likewise bad if you get a reliable not-dealer workshop.

As ek in durbs was het ek hom onder jou uitgekoop. Goeie deal. Goeie voertuig.

Depends what you lot want to utilise it for?
They're thirsty. 12-thirteen might be achievable if you keep the stock tyres and drive like a granny. Mine'due south more like 15-20, average over the last ii years = 18.7. I've fastened my log file since I bought it.
But install some decent tyres and a minor lift, and you'll take to make it to detect something that this Jeep will struggle to practise. Except peradventure save you money on your fuel bill...
Like Jeepster said, bank check the radiator and water pipes, I had mine replaced at about 100000km. Merely 85k sounds similar a skillful toll, considering the low mileage.

Hey,
I bought a like Jeep about a month ago and I'm loving it.Mine has nearly 79,000 KM's on, and I got it for R96,000, which I think is an absolute steal (no FSH though).
Either way, I become about 5KM/fifty in town, that equates to 20l/100km.
On our trip upward to Knysna and back nosotros averaged about 13L/100km, and we would have edged into 12L if nosotros didn't take to become into towns. Driving around in town instantly pushing your consumption up.
Either way, I love the car. I haven't had to do whatever maintenance on it so far, but I have an idea it might get expensive. Information technology's smaller than yous'd think inside, and the spare tyre does take lots of space in the boot, simply y'all tin live with it.
Highway driving isn't that fun, because we had to keep an eye on fuel consumption, nosotros were driving quite boring, between 90 - 110km/h. If we went up to 120 or faster information technology would creep upward to 15-18km/100km. It'southward not a huge leap only we were doing a lot of distance and then every liter saved helped
My Jeep has the digital display in the heart which actually helps. I would get it. What are your other options?
-
Uno, your's would exist the country (with the center console, cruise control, ABS & leather interior). They ordinarily toll slightly higher than the Sport.

Charlatan,
thanks I forgot to mention the extra trimmings part. But engine wise it's the aforementioned.

Thank you for the info!
Hello Guys
Thank you for all the info, it is much appreciated!
It sounds like a great vehicle to buy only its consumption is higher than anticipated. I had a Jeep Wrangler 4.2L left manus drive a while back and its fuel consumption was very similar (5km per liter). I am all the same undecided on this vehicle but I am planning to accept it for a drive tomorrow.Any tips what to listen for (noise wise)? I read through some former posts and I believe these vehicles accept prop shaft/front end diff problems?
Volition drop yous guys a mail service tomorrow to allow y'all know if she is mine or not.
Cheers
Francois

No, they don't take propshaft problems - only when you lift them more than say near 2.5" could you start to feel vibrations if you don't install a sideslip yoke eliminator. Some guys (like Biggles) are fine on stock propshafts and 3.5" of lift.
I would listen for noises from the dorsum unequal when turning sharply on hard pavement, but even that is most likely just lacking friction modifier condiment to the diff oil (as per factory specs).

Examination Bulldoze
Well, I took her for a test drive and she drives really well. No obvious noises that I could hear but a little play on the stearing? I take decided on an AA test tomorrow morning time just to double check that she is as good within as she looks outside.
Please conduct with me but do yous guys think it worthwhile to take an extended warranty out on her?
What are the pros and cons of these warranties and could you guysouthward please advice me on a reliable company that offer these warranties.
I take contacted 2 companies and so far (SA Warranties and Motorite) to enquire and it is quite pricy and then far (Approximately R4 000 for two years)
Regards
Francois

I have the SA Warranties on my Jeep. Paid R6k plus for a 4 yr period but as far as I know Motorite gives a better coverage.

Like most American cars, the steering feels a flake vague, but there should not be any play. Yous might exist mistaking that "vagueness" for play. Open the bonnet, go someone to wiggle the steering cycle gently. Check that the steering box does not move on information technology'southward frame mount.
Mine did - afterward LA Sport mounted my front end recovery point to the steering box bolts bolts, I stripped 2 of them. Had it strenthened with a steel plate and replaced bolts, now 100%. (Done at suspension middle, Woodstock)

Uno, glad to meet another XJ in Greatcoat Town!! We had an XJ getogether in December, you lot should join in on the next one. Sounds similar a very adept deal you got because information technology'due south a depression mileage Country. What year is yours?
Francois, it is comforting to have a mechanical warranty, only simply bank check on their requirements. They often desire you to have the car serviced more than regularly than prescribed by the manufacturers and if they insist you take information technology to the dealers, you could be in for an expensive ride just to keep the warranty people happy. I'd say if it has a total service record and has been well maintained to engagement you lot should exist fine without the mechanical warranty. 110000km is considered low mileage.

Dankie vir al die inligting and then ver, die Jeep was toe by die AA en daar het n' paar intresante goed uitgekom............
1. Bicycle alignment
2. Left mirror not adjusting
3. Rear wheel bearing play
4. Right upper radius rod damaged
5. Forepart diff oil leak
6. Engine oil leak
7. Gearbox oil leak
eight. Transfer casing leak
Groete

Become him to fix the oil leaks and the bike bearing. The bike bearings tin only be replaced as a unit so I think they're pricey. They all leak a chip of oil, just information technology would be nice if y'all can get the seals replaced before you buy, seeing as it looks as nearly everything is leaking!
How badly is the upper command arm damaged? If y'all're planning on installing a pause elevator, you can get Rubicon Express ones at the same time... merely the upper ones are not the issue - well-nigh people only upgrade the lower control arms.
I'd say get out the shocks - you're going to want to upgrade those anyway.
I would normally have said leave the wheel alignment too, but depending on the harm on the command arm, a wheel alignment check might highlight more issues.

What rear axle does it have?
If its the D35, it could piece of work out to be expensive. The rear bearings dont take an inner race, and run directly on the shaft. When the bearings wear, they vesture grooves in the axle shaft, resulting in them having to be replaced. My mechanic quoted me R2800 each for the side shafts.
